Agata Alcaniz

Biography

Agata Alcaniz, an artist from Barcelona (Spain) based in Manchester (UK). She studied Graphic Design Degree at the International Massana College (Spain) and has exhibited throughout Manchester, Liverpool and many other galleries and festivals in England, Spain and Portugal.

Her main practice is explored through various modes of digital media in contemporary arts and cultures. These are fused with research interventions in different urban spaces, which are inspired by her passion on the subject of environmental issues. Her work platforms a visual dialogue her main subject of interest, which is conceptualised through live art and digital video to inform and enlightenment. The contextualisation of her art has been platformed in large scale installations, where the senses become absorbed in the art to instill the concept embodied by the artist.

She is a dynamic artist with zeal and vigour, not only on the subjects that influence and shape her art on the subject of environmentalism, but the diversification of how these topical subjects are communicated through the different technological processes she employs in her work.

Statement

After being graduated in Contemporary Art my goal is to develop as an artist. I am interested in explore different aspects of reality and produce artworks that reflect them. The aim of these explorations is to capture these realities to be able to understand them, myself and the public that experience my work.

I have two main areas of interest. One is around environmental issues, as for instance the impact of waste that human kind generates in our times. The outcome of these investigations has taken the form of performance and installation work, using litter and other media. The last installation of this kind was a big wall made of ice cubes that contained litter I gathered from what I have termed ‘Environmental Performances’.

My second area of interest is the visualization of all those realities that escape to our natural sight, reason for which I like to use any technology which can visualizes them. For this I have produced Interactive Installations using different electronic equipment.

Finally, I like to produce Interactive Installations where is the audience who creates the final result. With this kind of work I like to give the opportunity to people to participate in the creation of the artwork plus create an environment to explore the principles of interactivity between people.
